Dates Drilled: May 24-25, 2004; Photos
1. Name of Project: Cottage Hospital at MCC Road WB Housing Estate, Abayi Abia State.
2. Location: GPS coordinates: 05o 08.029N; 007o 20.137E; Elevation: 231 Ft.
3. Estimate of Population served or to be served by well (human, and animals / livestock): About 20 bed cottage hospital, and over 80 outpatients seen daily. The hospital has resident doctors, 20 nurses, 2 pharmacists, over 10 paramedical / auxiliary nurses; and over 5000 in nearby housing estate / community.
4. Distance to nearest river or stream: 5 Kilometers or approximately 3.13 miles.
5. Description of project / challenges faced if any (includes the general formation information / soil types encountered): Aba zone is generally easy drilling formation is soft, sandy soil. The challenge is to have a good mix of drilling mud for better flow. Took 1 days to drill, 1 day to develop this well.
6. Physical Dimensions of Well - Depth of Water Well, finish diameter, etc.): Well is drilled 6.5 diameter down to 170 feet; estimated yield is 25+ GPM.
7. Installations: State the casing size installed, draw pipes / riser pipes installed, capacity of pump installed and type (submersible or hand pump, power source where a submersible is installed, etc.): 5.25 Casing was installed in well with a 10 feet screen at 65 feet, and a 1.5 HP SUMO submersible pump. The draw pipes or riser was 1.5 pipes.
8. Vital Photographs: (Include photos of water well producing / being developed, or natives fetching water from well): The photographs are attached shows the well being developed by air compression / flush cleaning with the exciting water jet going up in the air in front of the hospital while staff watch the action during construction. The second photo shows the finished well producing good water as the young drilling assistant collects it in a bucket. Drilling photo the well was done by manual rotary.
